Greystoke Mahale

A five-hour flight from Arusha, Tanzania, the iconic Greystoke Mahale camp sits near Mahale National Park. Located in Western Tanzania on a pristine white-sand beach overlooking Lake Tanganyika, the lodge is nearly as beautiful as the setting itself. All of the rooms were built from locally sourced, sustainable materials. Although Greystoke Mahale shares the lake and beach with many land and water animals, the area is most well-known for its abundance of chimpanzees. Guests staying at the camp have the daily opportunity to go “chimp trekking.” Although a sighting is never guaranteed, it is highly likely. Additionally, once the guests have hiked to where the chimpanzees are located, they have one hour to spend time with the amazing primates, watching their daily routines and actions that are remarkably similar to humans’. Greystoke Mahale is open all year-round with the exception of late March to the end of May for maintenance. I have always possessed a love of travel, and I would absolutely love to visit Greystoke Mahale sometime in the near future. (Images courtesy of Nomad Tanzania.)
