5 Casual Restaurants to try in NYC

New York is a cultural hub, and it no doubt has one of the best culinary scenes in the world. Many popular restaurants, however, are highly expensive, and the dress code is formal. I, personally, love to relax with a burger in hand, and I wanted to share a quick list of some of my favorite NYC spots that are both casual and delicious. Enjoy! xo.

1) Burger Joint

Hidden behind a secret curtain in the lobby of the Le Parker Meridien hotel, this cash-only burger counter undoubtedly serves some of the best hamburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches in the city.

 2) 12 Chairs Cafe

Located in SoHo, this fusion restaurant serves Middle Eastern dishes with a Mediterranean twist. I ordered the Baladi eggplant and their signature hummus for an appetizer, and my main course was a salmon omelette with a side order of their Greek salad. (Image courtesy of 12 Chairs’ website).

3) Sea

Located in the heart of Williamsburg, Sea is definitely worth a visit. This Thai restaurant has unique interior design with delicious options for both meat lovers and vegetarians. The pond in the middle makes it feel like you are sitting in a beautiful garden in Thailand. Also, Williamsburg is such a fun area, and you can do lots of activities either before or after dinner- make a day out of it!

 4) Norma’s

Located across from Burger Joint, this restaurant is known for its decadent (and Instagram-worthy) brunch. Be sure to order the chocolate French toast covered in strawberries, Valrhona chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and pistachios. (My own picture).

 5) Tompkin’s Square Bagels

Although this bagel shop is not exactly a restaurant, you must visit Tompkin’s if you are in New York City. The shop offers innovative cream cheese flavors including chip cookie dough, walnut raisin, and espresso. I got a plain bagel with birthday cake cream cheese and would recommend this combination to anyone. Although you may be skeptical of this flavor, I promise– you won’t regret trying it!
